Hi everyone! I've been having an oddball time putting together a heatermeter. It's been about 10+ years since I've done a DIY electronics project, so I've been terribly rusty, and it shows.
I ordered a soldered 4.3 unit with a case and I'm using a Raspberry Pi B+ with a generic wifi adapter (it has a Realtek RTL8188CUS chipset). I first powered it up using the 5v on the Pi, and it worked just fine. Was able to log in and check all the settings, everything. The only issue I had was with the fan and servo not powering up, but I'll get to that later. So, figuring that I had everything alright, I put it all back together, and then my wifi wasn't working. Tried reseating the adapter, and even swapping the adapter with a Netgear adapter I also have. I can log in using a hard line, but no wifi.
Just in case, I reformatted the SD card, and put a fresh install from the heatermeter downloads page. I looked at the config.txt file and all my wifi info is in there as well. When I'm logged in and in the Network pane, the adapter shows up with my wifi name but it's just not connecting. Am I missing something? It seems to be a Problem Existing Between Keyboard and Chair, but I'm hoping its something simple.
On another note, I mentioned my fan not working either. I have a Tower Pro MG90S servo and the 50mm Delta fan and a 3D printed Adapt-a-Damper I plugged the whole setup when I did the initial test and heard it click and move the top bellows just a bit, so I figured that was its home position. Apparently not because it got really hot and I think the motor got overworked. It still clicks over when I unplug and replug, but it's only just a little bit, not even a full quarter turn, so I'm not 100% sure if it's fried, but I don't think it is. I have a feeling it's something in my wiring. I had it set up a: 3- red from servo, 4- black from fan, and brown from the servo, 5- orange from the servo, 6- red from the fan.
thank you so much for your patience in reading all this nonsense. I think I'm frustrating myself and overthinking a lot and just need to ask the experts for advice. Please let me know if you need any pictures of my setup, I'll be happy to post them.
