New Gen CEP330 Owner

Evening all,

Have just "inherited" a Genesis CEP330 "Special Edition". It was going to go to the curb as my in-laws moved but I'm a cheap bugger so took it instead.

Overall, it's in much better condition than my 20 year old Napoleon so will call it a win.

However, it's a Natural Gas version and so I'm in need of switching it to Propane. I'm cheap but not brave/foolish enough to cut too many corners. After some digging on this forum, I'm going to order the propane manifold P/N 62762 and the hose/regulator P/N 65909.

I'm stymied though for the orifice for the side burner. Any input is appreciated, or a link to an old thread.

Anything else I should know/watch out for with these?

Thanks,

Phill

Hi Phill,

welcome !

I have a 2016 E330 I converted from NG to propane and replacing the manifold is the way to go.

You can go with a Weber branded hose/regulator, or go with an aftermarket regulator. Several of us have had success with non-weber branded ones and some swear by the weber branded ones. YMMV

For the side burner, I just swapped orifices. I'd have to dig up my notes for the size but it is straightforward to replace.

Other things: ?

The propane tank won't mount inside without cutting a hole in the floor, and the natural gas version of the 330 does not have a heat shield on the slide out bottom pan so to work around this, I highly recommend mounting the tank on the outside.

You can use a tank hanger that's commonly found on Genesis Silver B/C and Golds from the early 2000s. It fits right into the existing holes and you can dress it up with a weber tank cover

Welcome to the forum, and I'm glad you're choosing to do this conversion the proper way. I can't add too much to what Dan said except to comment on the side burner. I just recently converted a grill though it was a propane to NG job. I did not notice any real difference in the way the side burner operated on either gas, so I would do your conversion first and see how the side burner works before worrying too much about changing that orifice as it may not be necessary.

Thank you both for your input, much appreciated. Using the factory parts made for an easy install.

My propane tank fit nicely inside the cabinet without issue so took that as an easy win. Floor of the cabinet has some surface rust and paint bubbling so some day I'll scrape and repaint it but for now should be fine.

I left the side burner as is. Flame pattern looks good for propane and I'd rather have more BTU for bringing a big pot of water to boil than having a low simmer so it'll stay that way.

Very impressed by the temperature stability and control vs my old Napoleon.

Propane - Natural Gas conversion pieces now available! Haha

Glad it is working for you.

You might reconsider outboarding the tank. Propane versions have a heat shield attached to the bottom of the slide out bottom pan. I presume it is to deflect some heat from the LPG tank inside. The hole cut in the floor for the LP versions allows the tank to sit lower in the cart adding another inch or two or clearance from the tank to the bottom of the heat shield.

Here is a pic ( not mine ) of an LPG cart showing the heat sink on the bottom pan.

Thanks for sharing that picture of the factory setup!

I was aware of the hole in the floor which would increase clearance but also, I assume (which is always dangerous), keeps the tank located while you move the appliance. I compared clearances vs the old BBQ and it was within 1/2" so figured I'd give it a try. I've been monitoring the surface temp of the tank closest to the burner with an infrared gun and so far nothing above 35C (95F) but will keep my eye on it.

Probably safest to take it out of the cabinet though so may do that. I was going to price out a new bottom to the cabinet, if it's not too bad maybe I'll get the heat shield at the same time.

Thanks for the input and sharing of knowledge, much appreciated.

Bottom panel part number for LP is Weber 82793. $135.99 from weber.

The description on weber's site shows years up to 2012, yet the bottom panel is the same on the side control 300s as the front control 300s.

Here's a schematic for an S330 LP, same as an E330 except for doors and lid and it lists the same part number for the bottom panel.

I've looked for a slide out pan with a heat shield and could not find one. You might call weber support and ask if it is available. When I looked a couple of years ago, the only ones I could find were the natural gas version without the heat shield and I've not seen just the heat shield sold separately.

I'm sure my opinion on inside vs outside is pretty clear but here's a couple closing points.

A tank hanger is around $40 and a tank cover for appearance, runs about $15. You'll need a tank hanger anyway if you mount it inside so cost is really in favor of mounting outside.

Benefits having outside:
- not burning your hand to shut off the tank after cooking
- easier to get the tank on and off the hanger
- extra storage space inside.

I'll concede the look is cleaner with it mounted inside.

best of luck whatever you choose. The E330 is a great grill and I hope you enjoy cooking on it.
