New 22 Mods with Handles, Casters, and Gasket

Did these casters on my 18 and 22 and they work great. Set with a 1 inch 5/8 bolt & washer and locking nut. The handles were adjusted in a vice with new holes drilled to 7 & 1/4" and spacers (washers) were added between handle and smoker to make up the space lost. Basically giving clearance for your fingers. Castes came from Lowe's and handles from Genie. Added Universal BBQ Smoker gasket for TRAEGER. Got it from ebay. Been reading about different doors and adjusting the OEM door. Applied this and looks airtight.

the handles,... are worth it. Use'um every cook.

I use mine all the time just wheelin around the garage or back patio. With the weight of the 22, the wheels are a necessity.

Excellent! So these are the same handles that fit the 18" wsm. I may have to do this mod this weekend.

they're a great idea. No drilling into the smoker and they look good.

My wheels are so useful they are a near necessity (to me). My covered grill/smoke area is too small for normal positioning of both the grill and the WSM. So I store the WSM back against the house and use the wheels (and conveniently, the handles) to pull it out in the open decks space when smoking. But the last two times I used it, an unexpected rainstorm came up and I didn't want to sit or stand out in the rain when there was a perfectly nice sheltered spot a few steps away. With the wheels (and conveniently, the handles), I could just quickly pull the WSM under the shelter and continue with no problem -- a little more cramped and not as elegant, but doable.

I picked up a set of the Genie Universal handles from Lowes and the screw holes don't even come close to working on the 22.5 WSM. Did you flatten them out a bit to make them work?

What's with the arched opening in the picture? Is that new? I have a 22 and my opening is square. I am thinking of buying another 22 and I hope they are not all like that. That will make it even harder to service the bottom rack from the door opening.

How did you make the brackets for the handles?

I did adjust them in a vice and drilled new holes...see original post.

Sorry, I missed that. Could you give us some more details and possibly some pics on installing the handles on the 22.5? Thanks

That's for the 18.5, not the 22.5.

I know people on here have made them work on the 22.5

No, call weber and order the handles for the Ranch and mount them on the 22WSM

So the Ranch handles fit the 22.5 without alterations? If so will Weber let me order them without actually owning a Ranch?
