Thanks Wal-Mart!!

After eating grilled and smoked BBQ at my house for years my FIL decided he wanted a grill to use at home. Well my MIL said he wanted one of those $39 charcoal grills from Wal-Mart (Char-Broil). I had already decided to buy the $79 18.5 Weber anyways.

When we stopped by the store they had four of the grills in front of the store with a $39 sign in front of them. Well I noticed (obviously) that one of the two in the back was a Weber 22.5 ($99 in the grill section). I wondered if it was a display that they had discounted. I told my Wife that I was going to get it for $39 regardless. She then informed me that she would check-out in a different line.... I don't know why???

I headed directly to an open cashier and informed him that I wanted to buy the $39 Weber outside the store. He said "I'm sure there's not a $39 Weber out there but let's go look." We walked out and he says "That grill should be $79 but since it's with the $39 grills and there's no tag on it, let me talk to my manager."

He didn't realize that it was the $99 grill....

So we go back in and grab a manager. He walks out with us and upon seeing the display setup actually laughs and says "Let him have it for $39 since it's similar to the other three and they are grouped together."

I was expecting to have to convince someone to sell it for the advertised price, but this went much better than I expected.

So, $39 later, I have a happy FIL that owns a new Weber.

What a blessed day!

Ok, another story. Two days later I go to HyVee to get some batteries that they have advertised for buy one get one free. Well I get to the battery display and there's no sale advertised there. I go ahead and grab two packs of AA and two packs of AAA and head for the checkout.

I informed the cashier of the sale but that it wasn't advertised on the display. She says "Let me ring them up and let's see what it says". They rang up full price.... She pulls out her sales ad and starts flipping though it. When she found it in her ad it actually says "FREE"..... not bogo but just FREE. I jokingly said, "I'll just take them for free then".

Two managers come over and punch a bunch of buttons then run off through the store. The cashier then tells me the total and it doesn't include the batteries?? I told her that the amount wasn't correct and she informs me that their policy is that if the item wrings up incorrectly then the customer gets that item for free.

So, I got four packs for free. Not a bad week....

Want to come shopping with me this weekend?

A.J. very nice frugal shopping, but you are not helping the slumping economy one bit, lol.

AJ, Before working in healthcare I was a HyVee manager, and it is good to know that they kept by the policy set out by the original CEO...gotta love free stuff!
