Neutered my Performer

Since I have not had any propane in the tank in 2 years I decided to pull the gas assist out of my Performer and put the space to better use.

I left the bracket, but removed the burner tube, gas regulator, igniter, tank and tank bracket. I am saving these in case I ever want to put them back in.

I then used a GB 701 hole plug (used in closing holes of electrical boxes) to close off the burner tube hole in the kettle. Now I need to build a tray/box to hold more stuff next to the charcoal bin.

Interesting. I just got my first performer and love the gas assist. It does look like yours had a 20# tank though and that would take up a LOT of space compared to the little tank on the new ones. Looks like a good place for some vertical slats to hold a variety of grate accessories!

Nice, tidy job.
Well done.

It does open up some area on the cart for storage.....a custom drawer would be cool.
One of the items that I would have in it....

32 oz squirt bottle....$2.39 @ Wally's
Isopropanol-399x600.jpg

Works pretty good....sometimes it takes two shots.

It was actually a 5# tank. I have 3 other grills so I am used to lighting a chimney with firestarters.
Dont worry, I am not getting rid of the gas components. I will prob re-install it all later.
