Network issues. Need Help

Can someone please assist me. I have my wifi set up on my heatermeter however it seems to have a mind of its own. The issue is getting it to connect. I usually have to reboot it several times and wait about 5 min and stand on 1 leg.... Then all of the sudden it works. But I'm deathly afraid to unplug once connected. I even have a hard time connecting with cat5 cable directly to router. Same thing reboot several times then maybe it shows on network. I have an ATT uverse router if that helps. I somewhat understand networking but this is just maddening. Maybe I screwed up some setting in config? I am scared to make changes though because I spent hours trying to connect the other day and had to reload image on SD card to get it working again.

I had one HM that had network issue kinda like that, sometimes would connect to wifi and sometimes not, but usually did after a reboot or two. It was frustrating as I am sure you know.... This unit had connected well previously but suddenly came up with this problem. I dealt with it for a while as you are, rebooting and then crossing fingers and not wanting to touch it after it's connected. One day I decided to dig into it as the rPi was seeming not to communicate with the ATMega at times, so I pulled the ATMega from the socket and then re-seated it and the problem went away (and never came back). Later I remembered that I had dropped the damn thing one time and so I wonder if that jarred the chip loose or something, or knocked the SD Card loose which I may have re-seated out of instinct when I pulled the unit apart.....

So may pull your ATMega and resolder that socket and resolder the rPi header as well and hope maybe this cures your issue... Also make sure your SD Card is seated well...

Now that you say that the first Atmega chip that I tried didn't work. Wouldn't boot up. Had to replace chip. I will look at that. Maybe a solder joint gone wrong....

Thanks,
Joe

If you decouple the HM board from the rPi and just boot the rPi, does it bootup and get an IP address any faster?
