Friends, I'm planning to make my own rib rack using straight up posts along two attached rails. I want to coat the rack in food grade silicone. Does anyone have any experience with such silicone, does it come as a dip or spray on or brush on, and where might I get it? Thanks for any answers and help

Is that silicon linked above heat-resistant by default? Or does it require a special formulation?

I'm not sure what your objective is - a permanent coating or just something temporary for the cook?

Here's a heat resistant silicone that meets FDA and USDA specs - http://www.amazon.com/Red-Devi...p/B000H5Q5VG/tvwb-20

Here's a Food Grade Silicone Spray - http://www.amazon.com/CRC-0304...32569&sr=1-1/tvwb-20

If it's temporary, why not just use a vegetable oil spray?

A Google search for heat resistant food grade silicone comes up with some hi-tech and VERY expensive dips and coatings.

Russell and Travis,

Thanks for the inputs. What I'm looking for is some kind of permanent coating of silicone for a homemade rib rack. I want something that will make it food safe and easy cleaning and rust proof. I envision some kind of silicone product that will allow me to dip or brush on the product onto the rack. I have no idea if such a product exists, but experience has taught me that if I can imagine it then someone has surely thought of it already and is waiting for me to find it! Thanks for all the helps in my search.
