Need help. Fan no longer working

TVWBB Super Fan
I had everything working fine until tonight when I soldered on the final probe and the center button on. After I did that the fan no longer works when I plug it in. It just makes this faint screeching sound. I did have a small mishap when soldering on the button, some of solder got onto the board. The button however works perfectly fine. Is there any way to test to see of it's getting the correct amount of power? I'm not sure where to look since it was working fine the other day.

Thanks

Tried both fans I have, the auber and the original that is in the parts list and the auber doesn't work at all and the other fan barely runs at all. Looks like it's not getting full voltage or something like that. I guess I just need to do a whole new board. Ughh.

You could use the button maybe to go into the menus (press right) select "Manual fan: Yes". Then press left to go back to the home display. Press up until the speed is 100%. Now use your multimeter to measure the voltage at the fan jack. It should read pretty close to 12V. If you measure the voltage across the 3 MOSFET pins: One is ground, one should read ~3.3V, and the other should read 0V or really really close to 0V. Maybe that will help you figure out what went wrong.

I set it to manual at 100% and measured the fan jack and got 12.4 volts. That seems right. So I plugged the fan back in and seems to work now. I set it back to auto and still working. Did me setting to manual make it work somehow? Thanks for the help. Not sure if something is shorting out or what.

Well this seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes when I power it up I only get about 3 volts on the fan jack and the fan won't work. Other times I can plug it in and get over 12 volts. Something must be not soldered correctly or something.

Well I think I figured out the problem. I bought a whole new hetermeter board and the same thing happened. Then I realized it may be the power adapter. When the fan doesn't work I can tell immediately after plugging in the power adapter because it makes this high pitch sound. When I plug it in and it doesn't make the high pitch sound everything works fine. There must be something wrong with the power adapter. Now I have two heater meters.

Yah, the HM can challenge a cheap power supply... When I bought my PS I went with a 2 Amp unit instead of the 1A that is recomended and I am glad I did, only cost like a buck or two more... I suggest you look for a better PS, shoot for more than the 1Amp rating and you should be fine...

Well with my new found electronic soldering skills I figured I would open up the power adapter and take a look. Turns out there was a loose capacitor that may have been causing the problem on the PCB of the power adapter. I soldered it back on and what do you know it seems to work every time now. I wish I would have done that from the start. Oh well I learned quite a bit.
