Mounting a Thermometer

I just received my Tel-Tru BQ300 yesterday and was surprised to see how large it is! Anyway, I have a smoke happening this weekend and wanted to use it so is it possible to just stick the device into the upper vent?

Sounds good to me.

I had an inexpensive thermometer in one of the top vent holes. The smoke puts a nice layer on the bottom half.

Drilling a hole away from the vent and sealing it with the thermometer will help keep it clean.

Ernest,
This post probably belongs in the mods section, but anyway, I say bite the bullet and go buy yourself a uni-bit or a hole saw and put that baby in the right way

I myself just installed a bq300 last week. I used a 7/8 hole saw, as it was about half the price as the uni-bit. The only problem I ran into was that the hole saw shank was too large to fit in my 18v Skill drill, so I had to borrow a DeWalt from work. It will look MUCH nicer then having it hanging out of your vent

and stay clean also..

I`m not very "handy" so that thought of drilling my WSM kind of scares me. I may ask my brother in law to do so when hes over next time. Yes, I`m a wimp. ;D

Ernest,
I put mine through the top vent hole. It works just fine. It does get dirty on the back side but that wipes up really easy. I put it through a cork so I can also use it for my kettle.

Ernest,
Believe me, I'm no handy man myself. Just ask my wife

If you must, ask your brother in law to help. You will see that its not such a big deal. But to me its just so much better looking, especially being that you have that wopper of a therm, and not a little candy therm. Just my opinion, I'll leave ya alone now
