I have found several times now that it's common when the flame is weak or doesn't go all the way around the burner or it takes a bit for it to go all the way around. The stock regulators on these are going bad. Nothing to do with the burner. It is definitely the weak point of the Q series grills. They are so commonly bad or going bad that I just do a regulator delete and use a proper regulator hose that will actually last. Plus they perform better that way anyway.

I don’t think you’re wrong with that observation. This one, wouldn’t make the corner with old burner, after blasting, wire brushing and blowing it like a Saigon *****. New burner and it was a thing of beauty watching the flames dance around the corner.
 
You should invest in one of these then..... this one is only $0.75 more than the one I got and it has the valve too!!! Dammit....
