More Maverick Questions

I have been told I should get a Maverick to assist in my cooking so as not to over cook my meats as what happened on Easter very quickly with my Lamb. The question is pertaining to the ET-7 and the diameter of the wire for probe and if it is bigger or smaller than the grommet tool from BBQ Guru?
Also can you find these probes actually in stores or are mainly sold online?

Keeping the pit temp in your desired range is the key to great BBQ. I recommend the ET-73 (old) or ET-732 (new) so you can monitor pit and food temp. The ET-732 has some upgraded features over the 73 that make it a nicer tool if you have a few extra bucks. They can be bought online or some shops have them. We have a patio and pool place that sells them at a jacked up price. I bought mine online thru Amazon. If you do buy thru Amazon be sure to go thru this site's Amazon link so Chris gets nod. It won't change your price - but it helps Chris out to maintain the site.

Some use grommets and thread the wires through but I thought that would be a hassle so I simply cut a slot at the top of the mid section so I can sweep the wires in with a gloved hand. Dealer's choice and both seem to work great.

Here you can see the slot I cut and the temp probes installed in the food and on the grate:
