Maverick Probe Mod

Question for everyone out there. I installed the mod for the Maverick probes this past weekend and tried it out on Saturday. The mod worked great but I have a question. Would the mod allow enough air flow to keep the coal from snuffing out. In the past my WSM would shut down pretty quick after the cook but this last time and the first since I installed the mod my WSM never snuffed the coals completely and as a matter of fact I went back to my WSM a good 12 hours after my cook and I had shut down all the vents I was still hold a temp around 175 and most of my coals had burnt up and it never snuffed out. I didn't install the cap on the pipe do you think it would allow enough flow that would keep my coals from snuffing out?

I have done the lamp rod mod if that is what you are referring to and there are a couple of ID sizes. I'm thinking 3/8" will allow enough air to allow a slow burn. Easiest way to find out next time is to cap the pipe.

Marty I have two Cajun Bandit grommets on my 18-1/2 WSM, each at about the level of each grill. I can close the vents and the coals go out reasonably quick.

I have the 3/8 lamp pipe mod on 2 of my cookers. When I shut the vents the fire goes out. Maybe if I plug the hole it will die faster. I will have to try it.
