Maple wood

I got several boxes of wood from a local guy yesterday afternoon. If you are in Atlanta, look up Joe's BBQ Wood. I got his info from Terre on here who had recommended him. Great stuff, really nice guy and well worth the $10 box.

I ended up with some hickory, pecan, and maple. I also got a few more boxes, but those are a gift.

So last night I was grilling some ribeyes and tossed a chunk of the maple on the grill to see what it was like. WOW does that stuff smell great. Can't wait to use it, might use it on my ribs tomorrow.

Love Sugar Maple!
Never tried it on beef. Besides the great smell, how was it flavor-wise?

Mike,

I normally use pecan on the ribs, not sure which I will go with. I am taking both with me.

Tim,

This was sugar maple, but they guy said he has good feedback from his silver maple as well. Both are new to me. I seared the ribeyes very quickly and moved indirect and tossed the wood on there for a few minutes. Not enough to get a big flavor from it. You could slightly taste it on the surface and was good.

Cool.
I like SM on pork loins, might give it a go on a biff tenderloin on the WSM.
I read that the ones that are used for making syrup are the best..Sugar,Silver etc..
Thanks!

Tim
