Lump at Smart & Final

Out West there is a chain called Smart & Final that carries the Lazzari Fuel brand of Mesquite Lump for $11.49/40lb bag. Lazzari is in South SF and sells a 100% oak lump for $14/40lb bag.

BTW, so far I have used the Minion method using a 50/50 mix of lump and Kingsford with great success. I'm going to start experimenting with 100% lump soon.

Quick question Bubba,
Is lazzari set up to sell retail? at one time, they only sold to restaurants.
Also, with the 50/50 mix, how many times did you have to refill the charcoal bowl?

Roy, yes I talked to them and they will sell retail out of their place in SSF. Apparently they made a bunch of oak lump down in Mexico and when it's gone they will only carry the mesquite lump.

Confession, I have only used the 50/50 on my ECB. I am awaiting delivery of my Weber. On the modified ECB, a pan full of 50/50 mix would last me about 3-4 hours. Should do a lot better on the WSM. I love the aroma of the lump as it burns. Something soulful to me about using the lump.
