Lost all communication on HM

Tried to rest password today and now I have lost everything. I have reset the config and rewrote the sd card to no avail. Now can't get the HM to show up via wifi or LAN. Couple of questions. Does the HM function without the the SD card installed? Previously the wifi dongle would flash. Now the light is on solid. Not real tech savy so this whole thing is beginning to drive me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.
 
The HM itself will function without the SD card or rPi entirely, the probes, blower, servo, etc will work, it can run a cook... However, without the rPi or SD card you wont get the HM web interface at all. Without the SD Card the WiFi wont flash, because there is no program loading to start up the WiFi.

You can connect a monitor to the rPi HDMI to see what is going on, watch the HM code load etc... If you have a spare SD card I would try to write the HM image to it and boot from it to eliminate the SD card as the problem.

Thanks that clears it up,a bit. I will run another card to check. If the wifi dongle went bad, shouldn't I still be able to connect with a LAN cable?
