Looking for a side burner, I actually plan on putting in on my genesis 1000 on the left side. I have two flip up tables on it. I’ll post pictures of how it comes out and how I route the gas line.
I am... I was able to do it on a main burners on a genesis 1000
I drilled out the hole with the next size up to clean it up, sanded the front drilled out the back with a large bit(just until I saw clean metal). Then I stood it up and with silver solder and a propane torch filled up just the hoe
after that I used the larger bit to get a point centered. And drilled out using a pin vice to the correct size.
I ended up swapping the manifold anyway with a junk grill I found but was a fun learning experience.
wasn’t worth in the end because the valves would have been a lot more work. Im having a lot of trouble finding a propane side burner so I’d like to see what would need to be done to convert it. I just don’t know what it looks like.
That is one hack, I would never do. For more reasons than just the inherent danger involved.
But, wouldn't it be easier to just change the orifice?
That wouldn't solve the possible valve issue, but it would be much safer.
Interesting, look close to a main burner valve. I wonder if the plug could be swapped with one from a main burner (which I have). I know the BTUs are slightly different but then I can just buy a new orifice to protect from sending to much gas.
Got it lit! Used the solder and re drill method. Worked great, just had to adjust the air flow (max open). Boiled a pot of water to test it, no black residue or anything.
(For the record I don’t recommend anyone coping this method, just sharing my experience)
still working on the genesis 3000 (was a 2000 before this burner). I’ll post once if finished.
