Local SF Bay Area Question on Meat

Maybe the wrong forum for this since it's such a local inquiry but also the most visible place to post it. Delete me Chris A, if it needs to live somewhere else.

I've looked high and low but can't find a solid stand alone butcher shop for exceptional meat and/or special orders in the East Bay or elsewhere. I know about Lunardi AI & Sons in San Leandro and a couple of smaller ones but wanted to see if anyone else has suggestions.

Michael - Have you checked out Scalise Meats in Alameda? They're located in the Encinal Market, Encinal @ High St. They used to be outstanding, tho I haven't been there in a while. I read somewhere that Mr. Scalise retired and sold his business to the owners of the Market. But it is still getting rave reviews on yelp. Also read that Baron's Meats on Park, also in Alameda, is good. Let me know what you find!

Michael,

I know it's not the East Bay, but Willowside Meats in the North Bay has quality meats. I go there quite a bit for meat. They've always had what I wanted or were able to get it. Killer sausages as well.

Thanks, Chris! Santa Rosa is easy. Just bring a cooler for the 60 min or so drive home. NO problem. Especially if they're good. And killer sausages? We're on the same page there. I think what I'm looking for is a place I can get (or order and know they will do the job) high quality beef ribs right now.

Joe Scalise Meats is definitely a great shop in Alameda. The original Kinders in the martinez/concord area is great too. The franchise shops are pretty bad though.

Baron's is the place .....my neighborhood go to spot for organic chicken and great grass fed beef. There's also Ver Brugge in Berkeley ....killer too

It doesn't really make a differecne with chicken or pork so I'm assuming beef. If so what types of cuts?

For example if your looking for choice or prime rib eyes... Costco should be able to help you out.

Define exceptional.

If you are looking for the absolute best dry aged USDA Prime beef or grass fed domestic Wagyu, then Bryan Flannery is regarded by many folks throughout the nation as the top of the heap for butchers.

Reach out to him directly and mention my name.

Full disclosure: I am a friend and frequent customer of Bryan's. His product is not cheap, but the service and quality is without equal.
