Lid temperature gauge replacement

I'm wondering if anyone had replaced the stock temperature gauge on the new WSM with something else. Something maybe a bit more accurate.

And maybe I'm wrong on this. Perhaps the stock gauge is accurate, it's just that the temp at the lid is, in my case, about 25 degrees higher than my temps at my top rack.

While I never use the top gauge, I do always note the temperature on it every half hour on my cook log. I use at least one Redi-Chek thermometer at cooking level during my smoke.

Thanks for your imput.

Lid temps usually run about 15° higher than top grate temps, so I would say your therm is pretty accurate.

Tim did you mean lid temp 15* LOWER then the top surface temp because that's normally the case as the top surface is closer to the heat source than the lid.

I don't use water. If lid temp reads 225* then my top grate is 235-240*.

No, I meant higher. Thats been my case and it follows pretty much everything that I read on this site. Heat does rise yes?

edit.. I should of added that I have a 08 WSM without the built in therm. You guys with the newer ones might be dealing with a whole different expierience.
