Anyone repaired lid chips? I'm thinking of cleaning and sanding small area and using heat resistance paint to at least stop the rusting. I would tape the area so minimize the painted area to the affected area.
There really is no way to repair it. The lid is not "painted" it is basically a glass coating fused to the metal. They heat the steel to red hot, than basically coat it with powdered glass which melts and fuses to the steel. So you could paint the damaged area but it will rust through no matter what you do at some point. I'd be looking for a replacement lid. Too bad you're so far away. I have a silver "Skyline" series lid in basically perfect shape. But I think shipping would cost an arm and a leg

I just posted a WSM lid repair yesterday.
The products used were rated to 500F so if you run your gasser hotter than that it won't work.
The process did make an ugly chip easier on the eyes, though.
I have also located a Genesis with black lid and I'm wondering how compatible these lid or shroud sizes are through later years. Like were they using the same size through 2001 to 2005 or are all the Genesis the same shroud size for 3 burners? Maybe Weber support would tell me
I found out a couple things the Genesis Silver is a different configuration shroud or lid and not interchangeable with the Genesis Gold nor are the burners. I talked with Weber CS and the replacement lid is $115, actually not that bad.
