Left with a handle in my hand

An old friend was in from out of town yesterday. Smoked half a salmon. When I went to grab the lid to start moving the WSM from the garage to the driveway, I was left with only the front handle in my hand. Popped right off the lid. It didn't affect the cook, but I need to fix it. Is it as simple as drilling out the handle ends and the lid and screwing it back on, or is there something else to consider? Thanks. I think the WSM 22 is 13 or 14 years old.

I'd drill it out and use a bolt /nut with washers to hold it on. I'd use stainless.

Depending on how nice you want it to look you could use something like a sidewalk bolt on the outside with a washer and nut on the inside

Or a hex bolt on the inside with a dome nut on the outside. You could go black or stainless

I second.
I'm a fan of replacing [insert politically correct adjective here] hardware with nice stainless nuts bolts and washers where ever possible.

Spot welds just popped?
Usually you see some rust around the handle bracket because the porcelain enamel didn't quite cover.
You should hit that with some oil occasionally.
