Kingsford or Lump Charcoal?

when chris sees this he's going to tell you to search for lump charcoal and you'll find a lot of people discussing this.

my experience is lump charcoal burns hotter and doesn't last as long. kingsford will not impart a taste in your food that i can detect. it will also last longer and be more consistent. adding wood chunks when you first put on the food will give you the smoked flavor you crave.

lump charcoal is great for grillin in my opinion.

Hey Preston.
I love lump when grilling or in my offset. But, Give me Kingsford in my bullet over anything else. You just can't beat Kingsfords reliablity. In perfect conditions 12lbs. of kingsford will keep steady temps for 15 plus hrs.

Just curious what kind of offset do you have? As my next purchase (sometime in the not so distant future, probably this summer) I will try another offset or perhaps the cookshack.

Well actually I am in the market for a new smoker and am impressed with this web site and the Weber.

I currently have a Brinkman Electric, but want to get a Weber too...so am investigating and lurking this forum. It and the Cookshack forum are the best forums on the web for BBQ.

In my electric smoker I use a few wood chunks and a few pieces of lump charcoal to provide a nice smoke ring...

PrestonD., Just thought I would put my two cents in. I use lump a lot in my Weber kettle grill. It really takes the flavor to a higher level, IMHO, especially for chicken and grilled fish. I have cooked ribs two times on my new WSM and both times I used about three fourths Kingsford and one fourth Cowboys Lump charcoal. I figure it may be a little edge since it is pure wood. The flavor of the ribs was awsome both times. I, like everyone else here, love my WSM. You would not regret buying one, but you MAY regret an off-set.
