kettle help

I do not have the charcoal grate for my 22 inch kettle so I cooked with the charcoal sitting directly on the bottom of the kettle. I am going to try to get into town to get one (I am at a remote beach). My guess is that I could do this for 2 or 3 cooks without permanent problems. Does this sound right? anyone done it?

It may crack the porcelain. That can happen anyway as it has to mine, but I suspect it was during one of negative zero cooks.

I've been banking my coals on one side of my kettle. I noticed hairline cracks in the porcelain when I was doing the spring cleaning. I suspect this could happen to you after some repeated cooks. I've since taken to not banking the coals up against the side of the bowl.

Thanks for the feedback. If I need to replace it after this week I will but it seems to work fine.

Do not spray ur food with anything,that cold moist agains super heated bowl might not be a good idea.

But i think there will no problem with pure heat.
