I was wondering how everyone cleans their grills after each grilling session? Besides cleaning the cooking grate, do you clean the charcoal grate too? The One Touch system? The ash catcher? I've been cleaning all of that and cleaning out the lid and bowl to where it's almost spotless. Am I being overkill?

i've had my OTG for a year and a half and have yet to clean the bowl. every few months or so i'll add some more lit charcoal(lump) after a cook and let it blaze with the lid off.

I understand your obsession with cleaning a Weber BBQ, you should always look after quality, after all it is pride in ownership. However you are in major overkill mode. Brush the grill after use. remove the ash before the next cook and check the lid for flaking carbon deposits. Clean the lid, bowl and grill every 3 to 6 months depending on the regularity of use. Save the time you spent cleaning after every cook and use it to cook more.

Cheers

Nope. Just a brush now & then

The One Touch system?
Nope

The ash catcher?
I might brush it out when I dump ash

Yes

If my OTG needed all that regular cleaning, would I, of all people, be using one? Nope

i just brush the grill off with the weber brush before and after i cook. kettle gets a thourough cleaning twice a year. eazy peazy.

Thanks guys, I need to stop being anal retentive. I'll slow down and learn to love the gunk. More time for my beloved bottle of Jagermeister!

You are in major over kill mode.
I treat my 1999 Bar-B-Q Kettle like a cheap hooker and it keeps coming back for more.
I leave ash in it until the next cook, drip pans full of grease too. I never cover it either. 10 years now and it still is in awsome shape.
OK, I know this sounds like neglect, but I grill several times a week, year round, in Wisconsin.
I do clean it before each use and it does sit under an overhang on the concrete patio.

This is the thing that has had me using Weber Kettles for over 30 years, Durable!

am I one of the only ones that are too lazy to even clean it thoroughly once or twice a year? I clean the grates and any film on top. That's about it.

Any reasons I should go ahead and try to clean the whole thing?

No Joe you're not. I brush out my Performer with a 3" paint brush after every cook and clean the grate. About every 3 months I clean the stainless with Zep 65. I have yet to give it a cleaning like you would a new car. Same goes for my WSM.

Dump ash on bare spots in lawn. Garden hose it over bare spot in lawn. Ash (potash) is good for the lawn. Don't leave lid in down position until completely air dry. Store with vents in open position (condensation).

about twice a year I will spray it out with a water hose then heat it up, clean the cooking grate each cook with a grill brush...thats about it
