Keep Performer or OTS? (Got both)

I have all he grills and smokers I need (need, not want) but never got around to removing "Weber less than $150" as one of my craigslist app's searches. Yesterday I scored a $50 2006 Performer in pretty good shape. It's on my deck now, but I'm not sure I don't prefer my OTS.

It has the table, but I have a table next to the OTS. Gas start is nice, but I'm comfortable with my chimney. I keep my charcoal in plastic bins so I'll never use the charcoal hamper. I do like the enclosed ash catcher better, so that's one for the Performer. I installed a thermometer in the lid of the OTS so that's a wash. And, I'm left handed.

The lid holder makes you either use your right hand or walk to the other side of the table to tend the grill left handed. That means sitting the grill perpendicular to the deck railing instead of parallel.

I have three kettles now and have to sell one. Those of you who love your Performers, talk me into keeping mine.

So NOW we know who got the one off Atlanta's Craigslist......with the Buckhead/Sandy Springs listing!

Yup!

Also, how tall are you? I'm 6'3" and being in front of the taller Performer is much more comfortable.
 
Well, you do know you are obligated to post a couple of pictures of this right? I think you will find the features of the performer will grow on you as you use it more...even if you have to overcome the obstacle of being "wrong handed"

As much as I love my performer, if i was left-handed and enjoyed my silver as much as you seem to, I'd probably sell the performer...though I'd probably go ahead and sell the silver too and get a OTG for the ash catcher.

However, one of the biggest reasons I love my performer is something you didn't even mention which is the sturdiness of the cart verses the legs on the OTS. I think about it every time I use my 27. It's not that I think it's going to fall over, I just like being about to wheel the performer around and set heavy stuff on the table or grill (like the rotis) without even having the legs cross my mind.

Like I said, if you ever get serious about selling it........I'm close by.
 
I have to agree with Justin W. Lew I have had the OTS,OTG, and finally went to the Performer. I personally like the security and sturdiness of the cart and the table. Especially with the rotisserie. The OTG and OTS just seemed top heavy to me, with those skinny legs and a good wind, I was not comfortable. I know a lot of members use them, and with no problems. I love the added space. I sometimes just use the chimney anyway instead of the gas assist. Once you use it a few times you will love it.

The inside was nasty. Ash almost up to the cooking grate and the ash catcher full of mud and water. I cleaned that up well enough at the seller's place to confirm it was in great shape. The seller apologized for the condition and said he would understand if I didn't want it. Even with that invitation, I couldn't bring myself to offer less than $50.
 
I have a performer and a mastertouch, the table makes a huge difference, the gas assist and charcoal bin are really nice accessories as well. I'd go with the performer and if you really feel like you need a left handed grill keep the otg or the ots. I think as you use the performer you will grow to appreciate it much more. Congrats on the deal.
 
Great score, Lew. Heck, I'd drive to Atlanta to buy that Performer... for the same $50 of course!

Always wanted a Performer, but I really love my OTG, even with no table. I bought a cheap folding table from Big Lots for $7 that works fine.

I told the secretary of war that if I found the same deal that you did for that Performer (especially an SS top red or blue one), it would be on our patio. She almost agreed.
 
I was rearranging my Webers on my deck trying to convince the wife that I needed all of them; it didn't work. While rolling them around, I did notice how sturdy the Performer is. Thanks, Justin, for pointing that out. I'm keeping the Performer and selling the OTS or the 3-wheeler. I use the OTS more often but there's something about owning a vintage kettle with wooden handles. It's a tough choice. Maybe I'll sell the gasser. It's convenient but I haven't used it in almost a year. (haven't gotten around to refilling the tank).
