been using my wsm now for 5 or so years on old patio. Just had new stamped concrete patio installed and am concerned of heat from smoker bottom hurting patia. I just did a high heat cook and put smoker on half inch copolymer plastic and it actually melted it. Ive read on this forum where a chimney starter placed on concrete cracked the cement. Ive also noticed the newer wsm has a heat plate. can i get one of these for the older wsm. any thoughts? I could lay 12 inch pavers on patio where wsm will go but im lazy and it would be a hassle. thanks for your input.

Have you seen the Grill/BBQ Deck Protectors at the hardware stores?

They are either square or round and about 1" think and are heat resistant.

The WSM is on a platform of bricks and I have a second platform for my chimney starter. No problems so far. The pavers would be just as good.

Your stamped concrete can take much higher temperatures than any common plastic, so that's probably not an accurate test.

The heat from a chimney starter as it is starting is WAY higher than what you will get from the WSM, even without a heat shield. You do have to be careful with the chimney.
