Just bought a Weber 2627 wood fireplace -


 
I received a Whalen as a gift more than 10 yrs ago and still use it in the RV. So many Rv sites require a fire pit and it's great way to go.
 
10 years? Excellent. Like the rest of weber products some simple care and they will last.

I used a wheel barrel on the slate patio, but when it got hot the slate exploded sending hot pieces of rock flying at your face.

I didn't realize the 2627 was discontinued. Too bad. We bought one of these 1.5 years ago and I put a grill grate in the bottom for air. Works great and we use it year round living on the Monterey peninsula.
 
Ya I bought a bottom grate for it also but read on the forum that you are to use sand. I do not have instructions. Purchases 'as is'
