Cooked some loin backs yesterday with a whole lot of "firsts."

-First cook with my new GURU
-First cook with lump charcoal
-First cook with no water in the pan
-First cook with a new rub and glaze (thanks Kevin!

-First cook with showers and thundershowers all day long

'Ya know what? It was boring. And I loved it!

I stuck a Nu-temp probe in the top vent, just so I could see what was going on without having to go out in the rain. A couple of times, I went out and "fiddled" with something, just 'cuz I thought I had to (but I didn't.) Most of the time I sat indoors surfing the net and watching Phil choke again at the open. When the ribs were done I "buttoned" it up to put out the fire.

When I went out tonight to clean things up, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had only used about a third of the charcoal that I loaded. There was only about a quarter inch of ash in the bottom. All I had to do to clean the water pan was throw the foil away.

This is too easy!!!

A special thanks to all of you that convinced me to use the GURU, and especially to Bryan S who keeps preaching "lump baby, lump."

Gotta go now, the leftover ribs are calling. There's more stories and questions coming.
