So I went to go buy the usual jealous devil 20 pound charcoal from the same supplier as usual.
Jealous devil's new name for the lump is Jealous Devil Chunx XL. I am not in front of my bags right now but I believe they were called Jealous Devil XL???? I could be wrong for sure.
I contacted the store and he assured me it was the exact same product.
Business wise to me it wouldn't make sense to change the operation in making something different when sales are already good.
Changing the bag would be expensive enough. So why would they need to change....something political maybe???
Anyways he says its the same as what I was buying, has anyone had any experience?......I am just looking to place an order here before 5 today.
Can I be the Guinee pig??? Can I can I ???
Please let me know if you have picked this new bag up and how it is in comparison.
All I can find online is 1 pic with a guy taking a massive sized chunk out of the bag bigger than could fit in the SNS.
The bags I still currently have are perfect size lump. Some very big hunks maybe like 5 or 6 really big ones, then 80% of the rest of the bag is perfect medium sized leaving about 10% smaller size which is good for lighting and then 5% or so of unusable crap at the bottom.

This is the only one I see available, it is similar to what the old bag was but now say CHUNX XL LUMP
This is the old bage which I have 3 or 4 left of them.
Also called XL lump....Im probably going to get a few of the first picture and see if it is the same.
The guy at the bbq store should know what he is talking about.

This is the 10 pound bag but I do not see XL anywhere....not sure on the 2 different sizes but I don't see why not.
Hopefully the XL has not changed to all super big pieces.

Yeah that is what the 10 bags of it was that I had....
I love this stuff and I don't like change ;)
I went ahead and ordered 2 bags of the Jealous Devil XL chunks......the bbq store guy was sure it was the same.
I asked 2 times just in different ways.........
I still have 3 bags left but I want to make sure its the same before I use all the stuff I love.
So that should arrive early next week, maybe Tuesday and we will have ourselves a good look.
I will post what I think, it is still the same wood, prepared the same way I guess so basically the size is possibly the only difference if there is one.
I am always nervous every time I open a new bag of JD. I always expect to be disappointed but every single time it opens up to exactly what I had in the last bag and I love that. Unlike some of the other brands......I bought 2 bags of many kinds to fall in love with one of them...too bad JD was one of the first I tried, it's hard to use up that other stuff now.
Komodo Joe XL - still have to try this and had it for like 6 months.....
Green egg hickory bag....the expensive one. - no big pieces and pops a lot but cooks hot. Basically 1/4 of the bag will be not usable.
Both FOGO's yellow and black bag....I disliked these the most, but okay for starting a fire.
The ones I liked were Weber briq's and JD, as long as you can get a handful of the smaller pieces of the JD out then you can get a good fire going.
The big pieces won't light worth a crap with the cubes.

If you haven't tried the JD I think you are going to like it. Took me a while to get on to how it works best but I like it a lot now.
If you can get a raging fire going, you won't believe the heat, so far it has caused a vortex grease fire and burned all the hair off my arm.
I would in the future always have handy a bag with smaller pieces in it to get the right fire going and then use JD for the cooking.
