Well here goes nothing!
My wife's family in south texas hunted and we ate Javalena often. When I shot one and cleaned it I couldn't eat the meat, because I could not get the smell off of something (maybe my nose). But when someone else cleaned the animal and cooked it it was ok. They always soaked it in milk, don't know if this helps. It was always cooked after the soaking with salt and pepper. Looking back I think a good rub would help a lot.
just my thoughts
