Is this Summit worth it?


 
I am interested in buying this model grill and check for sale sites frequently but so far no luck.

Unfortunately most of the ads list this type grill for free or less than $50 and are gone quickly.

I myself would check out the grill.

@Jon Tofte is a resident expert and can provide information about what to look at to determine if it’s worth it.

I've seen some that were pretty degraded after many years of hard use, even those grates can't survive some people's grilling habits. Another possibility is the owner realized how valuable they were and decided to keep them instead of the whole grill.
 
I've seen them trashed on pretty extreme and still cleaned up like new. I'd have to wonder if there were imitation 9930s out of lower grade SS out there. I'm not saying there was it's just interesting. Or if Weber contracted out from more than one company to have 9930s made and the quality of the SS was different. Regardless it's definitely good information Steve! I would have continued to pursued them in rotted out grills figuring there was a 100% change of me being able to restore them to like new condition. Now I'll take a closer look.
I have a couple sets on order from Dave so I should have more than enough grates for a couple lifetimes. I figured get them while you can cuz you never know.

Well I've seen where they were actually worn flat from being round. I'm not saying it's a common occurrence, but it has happened.
