Is NG regulator required?

The installation of my Summit 660 is almost complete. I noticed last night that the NG gas line is set and the flexible line supplied with the grill is ready to be hooked up. ONe question though is that the gas people didn't install the regulator...is this necessary? I've researched a few places on-line that say there is no need since it is regulated at the meter and installation of another regualtor may decrease flow to the grill.
Any comments? I'll give the gas company a call as well to get there advise before calling the people that ran the line.

Absolutely it should be installed. That grill is designed for 4.5" water column, typical pressure around here is about 7" but it fluctuates.

Removing it can void your warranty and if you had a grill fire and property damage it could cause insurance concerns because the regulator it was designed to work with was removed.

Don't take my word for it, call Weber support.

Thanks. After I posted that, I ran over to my house to get everything together and make a few phone calls and the gas guy was there and had just finished installing the regulator and hooking up the grill. all worked well.
Looking forward to the first cook tonight! Its been a long time coming.
