Improvised Ash Pans

My 1995 vintage kettle is missing the ash pan. Is there a commonly available improvised ash pan?

I'm trying to keep costs low, and replacement pans are about as much as a whole OTG assembly (40-60).

I have the very rusty original clips

I've seen a lot of guys use a metal / steel bucket and just place it under the bottom vent to catch the ashes. Some like this because they say it improves air flow versus the standard ash ring/bucket. It also holds a lot more ash, so less time dumping ashes.
