First, I would like to say hello to everyone here. My name is Tino and I have owned my WSM since the beginning of November. I've done fish, ribs, and chicken and they all have turned out great (my family thinks I'm an expert, but I don't think so). Next, I would like to venture into doing Pork Butt and my question is how much does it yield (lb/person).

Hey Tino,
Welcome. I can't help you much with your question as I am a new mwmber too, but I wanted to say hi. I'm glad to see more beginners here as they ask questions that I need the answers too also.
I just cooked a pork butt, but it was a small one, and my visiting brother-in-law ate most of it while I was at work, so I don't know how much 1 lb. feeds. I guess it depends on how good it is /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Welcome, to answer your question if you are cooking a 7 pound butt you will lose aprox 40% to trimming and rendering of fat during the cook, so you will have aprox 4 pounds of finished product (pulled, cooked to 195 to 205? internal). If you are doing sandwiches on a bun and use 4 to 6oz of meat per sandwich you will get 10 to 16. If your cooking for mainly men figure on the low end.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the welcome and response, you guys. I have been lurking for about 3 weeks before I bought my WSM, and I was impressed with the friendly bunch of people that post in this site. Based on that I made the decision to buy one of those. Wow! It was so easy to use, and my family loves the stuff that I cook in it. Especially my son, Chris, and he even helps out with the mixing of spices and preparing the coals. We already installed a thermometer, and replaced the original screws for stainless steel ones and acorn nuts. I found a grill extender at BBQ-Galore made by Meco. I inquired there about the BGE extender and they didn't know what I was talking about. I haven't located the Brinkman water pans for a good price so I don't have one yet. I guess I'm going to have to wait until the summer to see if "Wally-Mart" stocks them.
