A friend of mine in the Chicago area has a sauce business on the side so when I found myself in need of some sauce for 30 persons worth of barbecue a few weeks back I arranged to meet him at BBQ King Smokehouse in Woodstock, IL.
The interior is typical Sports Bar; not my favorite theme but I must point out that the beer selection is excellent.
They make their own sauces (L-R spicy, mustard, regular) and IIRC I thought the spicy and mustard were pretty good but the regular was a bit too sweet for me.
The sausage, brisket and pulled pork were all solid and as a bonus the sausage had some nice heat.
My friend is a fan of smoked meatloaf so when he saw it on the menu it was a done deal, and while meatloaf generally isn't on my list of favorite foods this version was pretty tasty. The house-made chips were good and we liked the corn casserole as well.
Beans, mac 'n' cheese and slaw. It's usually pretty tough for me to tell if beans are doctored or made from scratch but either way these were pretty good, but the mac 'n' cheese was fairly ordinary. And I don't eat slaw.
Stop in if you're in the area!
