I need some advice!

I need some advice! As I am an avid smoker with my WSM, I need some non WSM advice.

I will not have access to a smoker or a grill. I need a great idea for the good ol oven. I need to cook something for 14 people. (dinner party)

any ideas would be great!

thanks,
John

What kind of affair is it? Casual or formal? Do you have any kind of theme in mind (i.e. ethnic) or are you thinking pseudo-Q? Will it be a sit down dinner, family style or self-serve?

Go to Sams and check the frozen food department. There are many excellent options there. They'll take some time in the oven so you'll have an opportunity to destory the packaging evidence before you guests arrive. Do your best not to lie about how you "cooked it" when you guest exclaim how wonderful it is/was; however, as a last resort, go ahead and lie.

The last dinner like this I put together was Italian - easy to set up buffet style.
>Simple appetizers like pepperoni and cheese, artichoke dip, etc...
>Antipasto Salad
>Ceaser Salad - I just use Romaine, grape tomatoes, red onion, croutons and dressing
>Olive and feta salad: link
>Polenta with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, sausage and garlic: link
>A crock pot full of meatballs and sausage
>Lasagna with hot or mild sausage instead of ground beef
>Roasted veg - asparagus, zucchini, yellow squash, roma tomatoes, green onions, etc..., garlic and olive oil
>Of course some good bread - either garlic bread or crusty bread with some dipping oil.
>For dessert, you can always pick up some creampuffs, canolis, rugellah, etc... or you could get nuts and do a kasata - a cake made from sliced pound cake in a spring form pan filled with sweetened ricotta, mini chocolate chips, brushed with rum and dusted with powdered sugar.
Come to think of it, that was a lot of work, but man did we eat good that week!

If I were limited to just an oven it would
have to be prime rib/standing rib roast.
You will make 14 people glad that they came to dinner!
