I need repair advice

I picked up this 1998 weber on CL for $20.00.

For the most part it is clean and in good shape....looks right at home with the others

There is some damage on the lid and I would like some advice on how to repair this, what type of paint do I use? I have only seen grill paint in a spray can.

if it were my grill, i'd grind/sand off the surface rust. take a rattle can and spray into a disposable cup to get a pool of paint. use a brush to apply paint to bare metal. let it cure before cooking. and call it good.

edit-by rattle can, i'm referring to a high temp bbq paint.

James congrats on the deal, I would do what Bill said, and remember you only paid $ 20, or you could just live with it.
 
Picked up it's twin last night also. It has a few small marks on the belly not the top. I'm going to leave it as is.
If you go to an automotive store look for VHT hi temp paint good for 1200* You can do what bill said and it should be fine.
 
i just lightly sand off the rust and then apply pam to stop the rust. i let my webers roudly carry their war wounds. my eyes can accept the rust and chips but an obvious attempt at a paint repaie seems to distract me more.

Thanks George so pam like the cooking spray? How often do I apply it?
 
I totally agree with George. Be proud to own a 15 year old American icon that took a licking and keeps on ticking. The paint repairs I have ever seen or done only look good for the first few cooks. IMHO After that the repairs look like lipstick on a pig.

Yes, Pam cooking spray, vegetable oil. I re-apply if it looks rusty. I have also had good luck using mineral oil.
