Because it's fun to mess with people, especially kids, I've been regularly using $2 bills for a few years now. And recently I've upped my game by adding in half dollars and "Golden Dollar" coins as well; when I leave a tip it very often includes $3.50 in "weird" money. The $2s are the most fun, though, because a lot of kids have never seen them. Girl Scout cookies were $6/box this year and $2 x 3 = $6, which led to some pretty puzzled looks from 8-year-olds!
$2s, halves and Golden Dollars are readily available at banks and credit unions, although many places only have the coins in roll quantities ($10 and $25). I did learn, though, that Eisenhower dollars are no longer available to financial institutions, so the only way many of them get some is when they're turned in as a deposit or for change. Too bad, as nothing beats the sound of one of them hitting a counter or table top!
