I am finally a deep firebox owner! (Genesis 1000 LX green)

After searching for months I have finally found my grill. It’s a green genesis LX that I find for FREE. It does need some work but the main part of the grill is in great condition!

What it needs:

New burner tubes (maybe)- the reason I say maybe is because it lights but I have to hold a match up to different spots in order to fully light the grill. Maybe some holes are clogged?

New z bars: it only came with one bottom shelf so I need at least 2. There’s at least 4 that are rusted pretty bad. But I’m 50% certain I can remove the rust and that the metal isn’t too gone

New wooden slats and handle: other than the missing bottom shelf this is personal preference. I would definitely want a darker wood like mahogany. That is in the future of this grill

Flavorizer bars: this grill didn’t come with any

Grates: I really prefer cast iron grates

Painting: I will remove any and all surface rust and paint

Green lid damage :( : this is the only thing that’s not fixable. There’s a tiny chip that’s barely noticeable and a couple of deeper scratches. Not a huge deal

Sliding table removal: the sliding table piece is cracked so I will remove the sliding part and make it the older style. My spirit 700 didn’t come with a sliding table but came with that metal clamp piece to put the rod when the table is in the down position

Extra table addition: I would either like to add a stationary table to the right or a folding table under the control knobs

Looking forward to your restoration project. My green LX is one of my favorites.
Funny enough, your post on Reddit was the main reason why I decided to go ahead with the green 1000 instead of waiting for a 2000, 3000 or 4000. I think it was the picture with the walnut double flip up tables. How did you add that second flip up table?

I plan to keep this forum updated for sure. Aside from the durawood tables, what were the differences between the LX and the regular 1000?

Is this what's broken? I can sell you a new one if you'd like. The slide lock is a lot more convenient than moving the rod back and forth.View attachment 116588View attachment 116589
Thank you Steve. After looking at mine, what I thought was a crack was the separation of the plastic. Mine is normal then. Nonetheless, I definitely prefer the old style better than the slide but maybe I’ll keep the sliding table. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think if I were to add a flip up table to the right, i wouldn’t have enough room to add the sliding hardware

It's no secret that Genesis 1000 and Genesis Jr are my favorites. Personally I don't care for the bigger frames as much. Both are equally great grills. Just my preference.

Not a lot of different between base model and LX. LX has slats on the bottom instead of a wire rack and the flip table hardware is a little nicer with a slide lock assembly instead of a metal rod that you raise and lower by hand to place in a hole.

Adding a second flip table is an easy add on with a base model flip table assembly which is universal for left or right side. The LX style slide assembly for the right side is hard to find. The right and left side are each different and engraved with an L or an R to signify. There just wasn't as many and wasn't as common to have right side flips.

Very interesting to know. Very cool.

I shall be on the hunt for a flip up table assembly then!

If you like it that way it will be a lot easier to add a rh side table. The rh side hardware for the slide lock is a little hard to find although I saw some on eBay just the other day. The sliding hardware does fit on a 1000 though. You're still going to need a prop rod, another table with brackets, and another one those clips for the frame.

I personally prefer the rod into the SS clip into the leg. It feels more sturdy and less margin for error. A little more cumbersome to setup for sure.

That said if anyone has any of those SS clips with the holes they’d like to sell/trade, hit me up! lol

Do you have a picture of what exactly these parts look like? I’ve only ever seen the slide style flip up table.

If you make an extra notch in a lh slide rail it will work fine on the right side, I’ve done four that way. It just doesn’t look quite right on close examination. It is especially cumbersome to fish that rod into the hole in the clip because the tank gets in the way.
I even put one on our Junior cuz we use it a.lot. Not difficult to swap them in and out
