Hi
We are right on the path of the eye of hurricane Lee where it hits Nova Scotia. We are prepared with water, generator and food. We know the power will go out and will be cooking on a butane stove. It will be too windy to cook outside on our bbqs. Looking for ideas for skillet ideas.
Cheers
Ken

I hope you make it through ok. I think the best place to find inspiration for skillet type meals is Campbell's soup website. They have tons of recipes that may fit the bill. I don't really use recipes when I make things like that so I don't have any of my own to post. I do look at Campbell's recipes for ideas though.

Thanks. I do have tomato and mushroom soup.

Stay safe!

If your freezers aren't packed full of food, fill them up with random containers of frozen water to keep everything frozen longer.

The wind part of a hurricane generally isn't that big of a deal (granted there are exceptions). Most of the problems come after the fact - flooding, wires down, and roads closed due to trees down. I wouldn't count out the BBQ.

One thing I used to throw together in a skillet (and my kids at the time LOVED) was I would split lengthwise chicken breasts. Sauté/brown quickly in a little EVOO. Deglaze with a little vermouth and some stock, and add in about a half can of cream of mushroom soup. (the concentrate kind). Then add back the breast(s) and finish. Quick easy and tasty one skillet meal

When the wind does down we realize that the power will be out for days. I stocked up on 20lb propane tanks for cooking on the Weber. I understand what you are talking about! Thanks

Hey Ken, stay safe.

I'll share a couple of things I learned from dealing with longer term power outages. Maybe it will apply for you.

I use a cooler chest for my active food and set it on a chair in front of the refrigerator. Things that come out of the refrigerator go back in the cooler. It limits the door opening and closing and helps keep the food in the refrigerator cold. My thinking is if I need something once, I'll probably need it again.

Icemaker: If you can keep the freezer frozen with a generator that's great. If you can't the icemaker is a half gallon of water that can, and will make a mess. What i've done is plan for this and turn it off, and put ice in zip locks and those can go into the cooler to keep things cold.

Before the power goes out, crank the freezer to max cold. it might take the food to -10F or -15F which helps.

Coffee if you have whole bean coffee, grind a bunch before the power goes out.

That's just a few that I thought of. again, I hope everyone stays safe.
