Huntsman verdict?

Haven’t seen much regarding these anywhere. How has the Spider Grills Huntsman worked out for you guys?

I was pretty impressed with the Venom.

May want to also post this in the Huntsman thread. From what I gather (I don't have one) is that it is good except for cold weather where it needs a lot of coals to heat up all that metal. Tom Horseman has quite a few vids on YouTube.

I am liking it quite a bit. The smoke profile is well layered and very pronounced (but not harsh) which I am a fan of.
So far, I have done quite a few cooks that range from 150-160 (jerky) to 250-275 (butts, brisket, ribs). The fuel consumption has been fine. I did a rack of pork at Xmas that was in the 350-375 range and it turned out great. The ribs I have made are the best ribs I have ever cooked.

The Venom was a big draw for me and has really helped me on the long cooks. No worries at all and it holds within five degree of target temp.

I have read about and watched a couple videos of some issues with it getting up to 600+ degrees in cooler/wetter climates. I have not done a high heat cook yet but honestly, my interest in this cooker was for low and slow cooks. I still use my first love, my Performer, for many other cooks, including high heat.

The part of the Huntsman I do not like quite as much as my Performer is the ash catching system. It is a little more work to clear the spent coals and the pan/bucket is set down fairly low so it is not as east to access as the One Touch system.

Overall, I have zero buyer's remorse over this cooker. It is fun to use and I have settled in on some nice routines with it. My next cook will be a smaller pork belly which I have never done before and then later this spring I will start my sausage quest.

Cheers!
