Hey everyone,
I am a little rushed for time today and can't seem to find the thread on baked potatoes cooked in the WSM. To my recolation here's how it's done. Using idaho potatoes, wash and dry them, melt butter, mop the butter all over the taters, salt with kosher salt, wrap in aluminum foil, poke holes using a fork. Put in WSM for 2 hours. Does this sound correct? Thankyou Big Ir

BIG IR, i tried baked potatoes on the WSM once and did not like them. They were on for 2.5 hrs and still were not done.Probally 4 to 5 hrs is more like it. I do my baked potatoes on my Weber Kettle higher temps better for the spuds.

Big Ir, I once did pretty much what you describe. I used Idaho potatoes, scrubbed, rubbed with margarine, and put in the smoker for 2 hours. I didn't put salt on it, and I can't remember if I poked holes or not.

I thought they were great. No smoke flavor because of the foil, of course. They were very, very soft. Some might think they were too soft. You could actually cut through them with just a fork. They had plenty of flavor from the margarine, so I didn't add any toppings.

Try it and see if you like it. You might want to check them after 1 hour, and put back in if you think they need more time.

Hi Big Ir,

In lieu of baked potatoes what I do sometimes in put the potatoes cubed in the water bowl with garlic and onions...the drippings from the meat flavor wonderfully the potatoes. I let the water evaporate slowly while whatever I smoke is cooking and they cook very nicely and the potatoes roast after the water evaporates away.

I can serve the potatoes as such and also I can make a fantastic potato salad with it.

Take care...
