For you sand users out there....

Are you using the same pan that comes with the WSM or the larger one from Brinkmann?

Knowing that there needs to be room to collect drippings, do you fill the pan half-way, 2/3's...etc. before covering with foil??

I use the Brinkman charcoal pan about 1/2 filled with sand. Temperatures are really rock solid.
 
Hi Mike!

I actually use the original Weber pan, fill it about 3/4 of the way and then insert it into the larger Brinkman pan.

Why? Cause I already own the Brinkman pan and it's fit is much better. I started doing this after my Weber pan slipped out while I was travelling...sand all over the van! Several trips and cooks later..no problems.
