How many ribs to buy/cook?

I'm making ribs for the first time on my Performer on Thursday for me and my friends. There will be 8 adults total. I would like a little for leftovers. I was figuring on buying a pound per person. Does that sound about right? Or should I go 10-12?

What do you guys usually do?

Thanks!

are they good eaters? all men? making spares or baby backs? if me, I'd figure half rack per person. plenty of men can go through a whole rack. some women too

some will only eat a few bones, that's where the leftovers come in (maybe)

I smoked 3 racks on my WSM this weekend. This fed 2 adults and 3 kids with no leftovers.

One pound per person (half-rack) may not produce leftovers unless there are other protein items on the menu.

If you are doing spares then 4 racks, if you are doing Baby Backs, then 6 racks. With a bunch of sides severed as well, you'll have plenty of leftovers.

If you make those ribs too tasty/melt in your mouth & delicious, then you can forget about leftovers

For 8 adults with leftovers I would go 6 racks (I'm assuming BB's). Judge the quality of the ribs, if they're a little on the smallish side go up by one. Be sure to get the silver skin off the back before smoking.
