HM 4.2.4 AP/Client mode

Hey Y'all,

got my 4.2.4 together, it came up in AP mode, works great. When I set it up for my home wifi (client), it overwrites the WWAN settings, and I can''t get back to AP mode. Am I missing something? Can anyone clue me in on setting it up to where I can switch between the two?

I do alot of remote cooking, so I would really like AP mode easily accessible. I've been doing a restore archive to get back to AP mode, but I'm sure there's and easier way.

Thanks,
Will

Switching between AP and Client mode isn't easy, especially considering it is possible to get the wifi stuck in a state where it isn't in either in between. I made two command line utilities to switch back and forth, wifi-client and wifi-ap, which make it easier but you can't use them through the webui.

The easiest foolproof way is to buy two wifi adapters, set one up for AP mode and set the other up for Client mode and just insert the adapter you want. I think that's how other folks are doing it.

Thanks Bryan,

I have a few adapters lying around, so I'll make it happen! Just by chance, can both be plugged into the HM RPi at the same time? I'm thinking probably not, but thought I'd ask.

Cheers, mate.

Ok, now I'm really confused. How do I set up another wifi dongle? do I set it up as a new interface? Do I bridge it to the other WWAN? It still wants to overwrite my AP mode even with the other wifi adapter in.

Sorry, I can solder like nobody's business, but when it comes to network stuff, I'm a bit confused.

If you go to Network -> Wifi, there should be one radio for each recognized wifi adapter in the system and then you just set each up differently with a separate interface for each (like wwan and wwan-ap). Do not bridge them because that's just more confusion. You should be able to have the both plugged in at once. I do it all the time, although through a hub.

OK, so I set up both, and both show on the interface, but when I plug the home wifi (client) dongle in, it still shows IP address 192.168.201.1 and will not connect.

More confused!

So sorry for so many questions, but I'm really sold on this HM. I originally did a 4.0, and loved it. I since bought 4.2.4 boards ( 2 for me, and 2 for .... me). You have done an incredible job on this, and your wiki is very informative. Can't wait to see what happens next.
