Not that we didn't have a good biscuit recipe, just not flaky like Miss Keri's (NOTE: flakey is good when talking about biscuits). SWMBO emphasizes that the batter can be refridgerated and only a few made at a time.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

5 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 scant teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
1 package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
Combine flour, sugar, salt , baking powder and baking soda.
Cut in shortening. Make well in center for wet indredients.
Combine yeast mixture and buttermilk. Pour into well in center of dry indredients. Mix well.
Cover and refrigerate. This will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks, so that you can use it as you want.
Pull off what you want to bake. Pat on floured surface and cut with biscuit cutter.
Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
