Hey Gents! Looking for a natural looking outdoor sealer for my wood slats

Thanks guys.......its a learning process. This is the first wood slat grill for me and just like with the other grills its all about finding a process that works then running with it. Honestly I didnt give the wood much thought when I picked it at the store because the original wood on the grill felt so light weight and cheap. Of course that wood was 20yrs old and spent.
I am pretty much complete on the install of the poplar and not sure if I will switch it out for cedar or just let it run its course. I have a few other grills w wood slats waiting to be resto'd so they will for sure get the cedar.
Thanks for the free education!!!!!!

Thanks Bob.....
Are you leaving your grill uncovered and getting 2 years life from the stain or covered? I love that look!
Yes Jim, uncovered. Have to hit the top shelf with the sander and brush a couple coats on every cpl years

I agree the light colored wood looks really good. From the research I've done, nothing short of a varnish or shellac will seal the wood. But neither of those are for outdoor use. I'm using General Finishes Outdoor Oil. Seems like it will protect some but too soon to really tell.
How did this work for you?
