Hey from Staten Island - looking for my first Genesis

Hey! I'm Joe from Staten Island - born and raised. Bought my first home last year and to complete the backyard setup I found myself a 22" Weber Kettle from Craigslist and it was off to the races from there.

I've recently gotten the itch - as many of you have - for an older model Genesis. Having a hard time finding one in my area, but there is someone selling a really nice Genesis not too far from me. Pictures included - it's a Genesis 2000 I believe, but the seller won't tell me the year. It's also a NG, which I don't have a hookup for. The seller told me it "wouldn't pay" to try to convert it. Based on my research, it seems like my best option is to replace the manifold. Since I'm a newbie, both on this forum and also with any kind of grill tinkering, I was hoping you guys could help point me in the right direction. He's selling it for $200. Looks in great shape. I'm not super interested in a whole refurb job, just want something nice, ready to go.

Do you think the manifold is the right move? He hasn't told me the year, but is this a part I can find somewhere?

Thanks so much for your help!

P.S. I really wanted a redhead but I'd settle for this and could always keep an eye out on a lid down the line...

I would hold out for one that is already set up for propane. The reason why is because besides the manifold, which you can still buy new, there are a couple of other things you'll need unless you're ok with just setting the tank on the ground next to the grill. There is a tank panel and scale/holder that also comes on a propane model. These items would have to be sourced from another grill at this point or perhaps from another member here that has extra parts. The grill you are considering does look to be in pretty good shape for it's age.

Oh gotcha, thanks! How bad is it to set the tank down? Even if I got one of those tank sleeves? I'm just tempted because of A) the low supply of good condition Genesis's and B) the great shape this one is in.

The manifold is an easily replaceable part? Where would I source that?

If the price is anywhere reasonable I would take it even with no manifold. Easier to find manifolds and bottle supports than the good cosmetics I see there, especially in your location

I would grab it for myself as well, but I already have all the parts you need to convert it to propane. The added bonus is that you can easily sell the NG manifold on eBay for $50 or more depending on condition.
