Hello! I love your refurbs! And I dropped my old-new grill of of a truck bed!

I’ve been lurking for a while drooling over everyone’s refurbished old grills. Just picked up what I believe to be a Platinum 1 3200 ( I don’t see many on here?) for $20 and stupidly dropped it trying to get it out of the truck on my own. The lid snapped off at the hinge points and I’m definitely not crying! So I guess I’m looking for a replacement lid or endcaps now :,) And any advice for what to look for if you drop a grill on its head!

Welcome Rosemary and my sympathy for damaging your grill. Hopefully the lid wasn't damaged and you just need a new set of end caps to fix it. Unfortunately, now you have to find a similar vintage grill for parts. Post some pictures of the grill and we will be happy to help assess what you may need. I really like the Platinum series grills too, and you're right, there aren't a ton of them out there.

Thanks for the warm welcome Steve. Looks like there’s a chip in the enamel on the top front and one corner bent in where the end cap broke. Hopefully I can keep the lid? Whats the best way to go about determining which end cap I am looking for? Photos attached.

You can keep the lid if the chip in it doesn't bother you, the end caps are removable. You just have to find a donor grill to replace the broken end cap. It can be any Genesis 1000 to 5000 grill. You can't buy that piece new anymore so getting a parts grill is going to be the quickest and easiest way to solve the issue and you may even be able to upgrade some of the other parts of the grill while you're at it. It also looks like you could use some better knobs and maybe another igniter switch or two?

Thanks Steve, that’s very helpful. Unfortunately there aren’t frequently old webers in my area, so I’m kicking myself extra for dropping the thing. Luckily there’s plenty to work on while I source end caps. I think I’ll go the route of taking apart and cleaning everything first (with video to reassemble, as someone noted here!) then sanding and painting. Seems like igniter switch and knobs are easy to find. Maybe I’ll even find an even better one and this one can be the parts grill! Exciting. Thanks for the welcome.

You're right, you have a lot to do if your intention is to do a complete restoration. In the meantime start looking for the parts you need as well. You can still buy the knobs new for example, but not those igniter switches. I can't tell from your pictures if they are both gone or just not visible. As far as a reference tool for parts and reassembly, you can't beat the owners manual which you should be able to download from a number of sites including Weber.
