After being intrigued by smoking for some time I decided to take the plunge and purchase a WSM 18.5". According to the tracking details it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, six days ahead of schedule! I have a gas grill but this will be my first time cooking with charcoal but after binge read most of this message board for the past month I am (fairly) confident that I can handle this. I also have a Maverick 732 that is scheduled to be delivered Friday to keep an eye on the temps. Assuming that everything gets here as scheduled I should be up and cooking this weekend. The only other thing I need to pick up is a Weber Chimney.

After doing some research on here I've decided to start off with Kingsford Original and will be attempting a Pork Butt on my first cook. I'll most likely be following the Mr. Brown recipe the first time until I get more confident in trying out new things. If you have any other suggestions for a first-time user feel free to list them here.

Welcome to the forum. My advise to all newbie bbqers is not to get hung up on temps. If you learn to cook by look and feel you can turn out good BBQ on just about any cooker. Oh and don't forget the beer or your favourite beverage.

Welcome, sounds like your a pretty organized person...... you'll do great.
My first butt was a Mr. Brown good choice.

Hello and welcome. I'm new too. Sounds like you're in the right place. Esp with using words liked "binge" and "plunge". Hehe. Seriously though I've learned a lot by reading here - very very good info from the big hitters and the beginners alike!

Don't lift the lid...
