My new WSM is being delivered in about an hour, along with a few accessories on Tuesday. I've never smoked before but I am very excited to get into it this summer! Probably going to have my first attempt on Thursday for the NFL Draft. Any suggestions? I was thinking something easy like chicken wings. I have a little mini Fry Daddy to crisp them too.

Welcome, I hope yenz are doing good out in the burgh. I live a few hours down the turnpike from you but I went to college downtown at PPU. I can't get the accent to come through in a post but I hope you hear it. Wings sound like a good first attempt to me. I just got my used WSM a few weeks ago and I love it, you are going to love your! Enjoy! And go Steelers!

Yinzers can get a butt or two from Sam’s or Giant Eagle, and some wood to smoke! The weekend will be better for the time spent with the first cook!
As for wings, I prefer kettle with the Vortex. Just one mans opinion.
Go Stillers!

Glad you're here David! Always nice to have "neighbors" from the Burgh. I'm north in Cranberry now but born/raised in the city. Anyway, smoked wings are easy and yeah you gotta crisp them up. Smoked burgers or a meatloaf are also a pretty easy, low maintenance cook as are chicken thighs. Did you get the 18 or 22 WSM?

I'm actually a transplant from Columbus so I still love my Browns!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm out east in Murrysville. I went with the 14" WSM. I don't have a ton of patio space and it's just me and a roommate for now so I don't need a huge cooking area. Can always upgrade in the future!

You may be a browns fan, but at least we are on the same WSM team. I am a 14.5 owner myself, got mine used, but it is in great shape. I have done two racks of ribs and two chicken breast at once and it went great. I have also done whole chickens, pieces of chicken, turkey breast, and a 2 lb London Broil. All have gone great. I have a 8.5 lb Boston Butt waiting for me for my first over night cook on this pit, but I keep putting it for other cooks. I look forward to hearing how your first few cooks go.
